What to Expect at an EDD Audit
If you have been chosen for an EDD audit, then you may have forgotten to submit payroll taxes for your employees or you may have an employee who quit recently and is trying to file for unemployment or maybe an employee was misclassified. It happens sometimes, but the EDD will not be as nice about it. In fact, they may place hefty fines and penalties on you and this can damage your financial situation.
When an auditor from the EDD arrives at your business, they will first explain to you why you are being audited, what you can expect, and what they need from you. Our team will be there for you when you are in the interview with them and we will handle all of the talking for you. You will have an opportunity to ask questions at this time too.
Once the interview is over, the auditor will look over your financials and they will determine what mistakes were made, if any. From there, a final report will be made and sent to you. There are four possible outcomes to the audit and those outcomes include both overpayment and underpayment, no charge, underpayment, or overpayment.
